I brought it to store water, sometimes hot water. After about 3 weeks of use, I found a lot of little black spots at bottom. After throwing away the water & cleaning with my hands, I found my hand black with some kind of grease! Puzzled, after washing hands, I rubbed the bottom with a clean white cloth; it picked up black grease smudges.The bottom seems to be a separate piece of steel pressed into the sides of the body, though I find it impossible to visually see the two separate pieces from outside - good manufacturing. And they seem to use black grease to press the bottom into the body during manufacturing.From inside, at the bottom, there is a tiny gap under the sides that a finger nail can go in. I pressed my nail inside a clean white cloth & moved around the inside edges. More grease! I wasted hours over 2 days, & there was still grease inside. During this process, I also rubbed the cloth at the outside of the bottom just for the heck of it - even more grease!This is a sturdy container - apparently good quality steel & workmanship. But use of grease inside makes it a useless container for kitchen. If you keep food in packets they come in, it may be ok - just make sure food doesn't touch the container. If you are in the habit of emptying the purchased package of rice or aata into container, forget about using it; it will poison your food. And absolutely forget about using it for water storage for drinking or cooking.
